What Does Autoimmunity (Autoimmune Disease) Mean?
In conventional medicine, autoimmunity is thought to be a result of a dysfunctional immune system, where one’s own white blood cells attack the body’s own tissues, also known as “mistaken identity.” This means that the body’s own immune system mistakes its own tissues for a foreign invader (bacteria, virus, parasite, fungi).
The type of autoimmune condition or name that conventional medicine gives a disease is determined by the particular area or areas where it is occurring in general.
How We Can Help
First, it is important to understand that we believe the theory of autoimmunity is not set in stone, or cut and dry. However, mainstream medicine usually presents it as such. There is much debate on this topic, which has gone on for many years, but it’s vital to understand that there are other explanations to why the body develops symptoms of “autoimmunity.” Although, for now, in order to provide an effective individual assessment and plan, one needs to have an open mind to the various alternative methods of evaluation and treatments.
